This illustration is a small tribute to Home Alone, one of my favorite childhood films. I made this piece last Christmas.
There’s something about this movie, wintertime, and childhood that brings back bittersweet memories for me. Growing up adopted, not living with my parents, and losing my mother at a young age shaped how I searched for connection, comfort, and guidance. Films became one of the places where I found that, through stories, imagination, and characters that stayed with me.
Catherine O’Hara’s portrayal of Kate, the mother in the film, and her journey home in the final moments always made me emotional. You can see her in this illustration alongside the father, Peter McCallister and Kevin’s brother, Buzz.
This piece was created as a personal reflection, and as a reminder of how powerful storytelling can be, shaping us long before we realize it.
